International Day of Older Persons 2026

To mark the International Day of Older Persons, the neighbourhood support networks are renewing the “Simple comme une fleur” campaign.

From 1 to 4 October 2026, more than 11,000 flowers will be distributed in public spaces, depending on the location. Passers-by will be invited to give a flower to an older person in their neighbourhood: a simple gesture to make a first connection and raise awareness of loneliness and social isolation.

The campaign is organised by the Accolage, Bras dessus Bras dessous, Reliage – Belgian Red Cross, CitiSen – Maison Biloba Huis and Entour’âge – Maison de Quartier Chambéry support networks. The be.Source Foundation is supporting the 2026 edition alongside Iriscare.

Flowers will be distributed across Brussels, as well as in Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve, La Louvière, Morlanwelz, Tubize, Nivelles, Rixensart and Braine-le-Comte.
