Presentation
Our history
Alzheimer Belgium was founded through the initiative of a small group of people who had encountered the disease either within their families or through their professional lives.
They decided to provide support to families facing similar challenges. Founded in 1985, Alzheimer Belgium was officially recognised following the publication of its statutes in the Belgian Official Gazette in 1987.
Since then, its missions and objectives have expanded far beyond simple assistance, while maintaining support for people living with dementia and their families as its core purpose.
Our philosophy
FOR A FULFILLING LIFE DESPITE THE DISEASE
Behind every life journey, no matter how challenging, there are still meaningful experiences to enjoy and happy moments to share despite the illness.
For nearly 40 years, Alzheimer Belgium has developed practical approaches and support methods based on strong values and extensive field experience.
Our areas of expertise
1. Supporting families
We guide families throughout their journey and encourage the development of appropriate places for exchange, support, and respite.
2. Raising awareness and informing the public
We educate and raise awareness among the general public to change perceptions of dementia and promote a more inclusive society.
3. Training caregivers and professionals
We provide training for family caregivers and professionals to promote our person-centred approach to support.
4. Advocacy and representation
We defend the interests of families and people living with dementia before public authorities and decision-makers.
