1Toit2Ages: Bringing Generations Together
Grandparents have always welcomed young students into their homes—whether grandchildren or not—in a spirit of mutual support and solidarity.
In the United Kingdom, during the 1990s, this practice became more structured and was supervised by associations that ensured its proper functioning while preventing any abuse or misuse. Intergenerational housing was born!
In Belgium, Régis and Claire de Kerautem founded the non-profit organization 1Toit2Ages in July 2009. The initiative began in Brussels before expanding to Wallonia three years later, following numerous requests from seniors and students motivated by this win-win project.
The 1Toit2Ages non-profit organization is made up of a team with highly diverse backgrounds: lawyers, social workers, physiotherapists, economists, teachers, retirement home directors, and more. Each person contributes their expertise, knowledge, sensitivity, and listening skills to this deeply human project.
Our Mission
To reduce the loneliness of older adults and make housing more accessible for students.
Our Dream
A society where generations support and enrich one another.
We truly believe in this vision and do everything possible to make it a reality.
Festive events organized by the association—game afternoons, intergenerational dinners, visits, and more—allow us to experience this mutual enrichment firsthand. They encourage us to keep moving forward and to continue dreaming of a more connected society.
